In a separate report, Amazon India Vice-President Manish Tiwary said the platform saw a 60 percent jump in marketers who received their highest-ever single-day sales year-on-year on Amazon.in.
On Sunday, E-commerce majors Flipkart and Amazon India stated they had observed a solid start to this year's festive sale, with the request from tier-II and -III cities encouraging the force. Walmart-owned Flipkart on Sunday stated new access for its 'Flipkart Plus' plans (loyalty program) witnessed a 40 percent extension this year compared to last year, while about 45 percent of consumer demand has been from tier-III cities and beyond.
Amazon India Vice-President Manish Tiwary said the platform saw a 60 percent improvement in sellers who took their highest-ever single-day sales year-on-year on Amazon in a separate statement.
"Amazon Great Indian Festival 2021, our month-long festive holidays should be gotten off to a great start, with millions of consumers purchasing from small retailers posted on Amazon., including regional stores, start-ups, and brands, artisans, weavers, and SMBs.
"When Prime Early Access on October 2, the abundance of local shops competing in the event more than multiplied compared to last year," he added. Tiwary saw that Prime subscription remains a customer pick across India, with two out of three new Prime sign-ups coming from tier-II and -III cities and customers buying in eight Indian languages.
"We too saw a 60 percent gain in sellers who received their highest-ever single-day sales year-on-year on Amazon. In; the number of sellers getting an order from tier II/III cities crossed by 21 percent, and 16 percent more dealers got orders over last year," he said.
He added that initial data for Day 1 shows a strong start across categories for the month-long celebratory period.
The competition between the two giants is supposed to be hard, like in previous years. Flipkart's The Big Billion Days Sale and Amazon India's Great Indian Festival (GIF) began on Sunday. Both the stages allowed early access to Plus (Flipkart) and Prime (Amazon) customers.
While Flipkart's The Big Billion Days (TBBD) sale is an eight-day celebration that will close on October 10, Amazon India's GIF will be a month-long affair. Different platforms like Myntra, Snapdeal, and others are also handling similar sale events on their media.
Flipkart, in its report, said the eighth version of its TBBD started on a concrete note, with early trends showing upbeat consumer sensibility in the country.
"Early entrance for Flipkart Plus consumers saw a 40 percent increase as compared to last year. Interestingly, around 45 percent of customer requests have been from tier-III cities and beyond, indicating a strong choice for high-value goods/ items," it said.
Flipkart moreover continued that "the outlook for this festival was evident as more than two million customers pre-booked nearly five million commodities just before Immediate Access by paying just Re 1". The curated presents of "BBD Specials" had over one lakh customers placing bookings for these commodities in the first 12 hours of early access, it noted.
"This time, TBBD has begun off marking positive encouragement by customers and dealers. E-commerce is growing, developing recognition among the masses, and it is evident that user-friendly technological and economic constructs are serving to drive its adoption," Flipkart Vice-President (Customer and Growth) Nandita Sinha said.
She replied that the company would grow and increase its dealers and MSMEs (micro, small and medium businesses) ecosystem, allowing better income and resources for millions and extending its reach across the country.
Sharing initial trends, Flipkart told one in five customers has preferred to replace their smartphone for a new one, with 82.6 percent of customers willing to pay for their next smartphone using prepaid payment options.
Apple 12 and Apple 12 Mini are currently popular smartphone models, considering it added for most of the two-lakh Apple iPhone 12 devices sold so far.
Selling of sports shoes, informal wear, and men's clothing fastened in the fashion section, while financial constructs such as Flipkart Pay Later, no-cost EMI, the Flipkart Axis Bank co-branded credit card, and others are allowing customers to avail simple credit to obtain high-value gains.
"There are 124 new cities/towns from where sellers bought in the first 24 hours; these included Hingna (Maharashtra), Baghpat (Uttar Pradesh), Attingal (Kerala), Sambhal (Uttar Pradesh) and Dewa (Uttar Pradesh), moreover others.
"Top classes for marketplace retailers are grooming, mobile protection, home furnishing, household, and ladies ethnic contemporary," Flipkart announced. E-commerce stages like Amazon and Flipkart lineup new launches and address shoppers throughout the festive season, including sale events timed around Dussehra and Diwali.
Members see a large part of their yearly business growing throughout the festive sales. They make vital investments ahead of time to ramp up their function and add specialties to control the spike in orders while guaranteeing a smooth experience for shoppers and sellers.
According to consulting firm RedSeer, e-commerce programs are supposed to clock over $9 billion GMV (gross merchandise value) during the festive period this year next $7.4 billion last year - a growth of 23 percent.
These platforms are assumed to record 30 percent year-on-year gross GMV to $4.8 billion within the first week of the festive season. Gross GMV refers to the absolute value of goods sold on the stage before deducting cancellation or return.
The statement highlighted that trend is expected to see a constant improvement this festive season in terms of sections - in line with consumers' more prominent outdoor flow and continuing rebound of fashion/office wear.
